Blattodea

Your insect is probably a cockroach

Fact file

Order: Blattodea
Body length: 3 - 80mm
Species: World - 4000, UK - 8

Cockroaches are often considered pests that spread diseases. This is true, but many types of cockroach live happily on the woodland floor eating wood mulch and leaf litter.

In the past people thought that earwigs could crawl into the ears of sleeping people, and bore into their brains - but don't worry, this is definitely not true!
