Phasmatodea

Your insect is probably a stick or leaf insect

Fact file

Order: Phasmatodea
Body length: 10 - 300mm
Species: World - 2500+, UK - 3

These insects are the masters of camouflage. They look just like twigs, sticks or leaves, and they sway in the breeze to imitate the trees around them. If disturbed, they even fall to the ground and lie there perfectly still - just like a stick would!
