Strepsiptera

Your insect is probably a stylopid

Fact file

Order: Strepsiptera
Body length: 0.5 - 6mm
Species: World - 532, UK - 15

You would probably never notice these insects because they are so small, but they have an amazing life cycle. Male stylopids look a bit like beetles, but the females look like small grubs, with no eyes, antennae or legs. They are often parasites living inside other animals - usually bees and wasps.
